No One's Going To Read It

It was a hard decision.

Hard deciding on what should be my "first post."

A little subpersonality (a.k.a. homunculi) said...repeatedly no less..."no one's going to read it anyway." Probably right. So why am I taking the time to bother? Why not just post a funny or cute writer's meme? Better yet, why bother with a blog at all?

Procrastination?

I don't want to admit to that...but, sure, maybe.

I should be working on my latest screenplay. I had a self-imposed deadline, which came and went over a month ago. But it's my deadline. Not a production company's, not a director's, not a producers, not, not, not. I wish it was. I can say confidentally that I would have finished it. I work well under pressure when someone else is holding me accountable.

Validation?

Does a blog validate me as a writer? As a professional in my chosen field? As someone we should follow and listen to?

Fuck no! I just spent 5 minutes decide whether or not I should exclude that word or offer up some kind of trigger warning.........WTF!

Therapy?

Possibly. I mean, I'm not really expecting anything to come out of this blog. However...

What if? As a writer we really love these, don't we.

What if someone actual reads this and decides I'm a freaking idiot. And then they have to tell me. Or worse, tell others. I don't even have a following. Now I'm in the deficits.

And now I'm wondering whether I should even link my professional writing site with this blog.

Fuck!

I was going to write about safe topics like-

  • the best query letters

  • scene structure

  • the art of the elevator pitch, etc.

Instead I wrote a confessional that devolved into paranoia. I may erase the whole thing...

Or I could run it by a few friends; see what they think before I press "publish." If you're reading this did my friends throw me under the bus?

Anyway, I've decided to inspire. There are plenty of inform sites. Today, I would rather pay homage to one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, Akira Kurasawa. The link is to a video that talks about his work through a writer's eyes. If you haven't seen any of his films, I think you should. Start with a newer one and work your way back from there!
